These baskets are made in Azel, a little oasis lying in the middle of the Sahara, not far from Agadez in the Niger. The women are organised as a cooperative, and together they gather the palm fibres, after which they dry and then dye and weave them to make mats, baskets, bags, hats, etc. Our baskets are very finely woven. The straw we use is light, giving them a very delicate look. Each basket is individual, depending on the hand that made it. This is what is so delightful about them. In each basket, there is a label with the name of the woman who made it.
