The American photographer is back to the gallery seven years after his first exhibition.

As Paris buzzes with the Month of Photography, Mark Cohen is back, seven years after his first show at Galerie du Jour. A radical figure of American street photography, Cohen turns his lens to the city’s hidden margins and broken rhythms.

With Low Ideas, he trades grand narratives for fragments: an empty cup, a piece of bread, a folded leaf. Shot from the pavement, these black-and-white images capture the poetry of almost nothing, a world made of traces, tensions, and fleeting gestures.

An instinctive artist, Cohen calls his approach “action surrealism,” a direct, physical way of seeing. Around forty silver prints, most of them shown for the first time, map out a quiet, tactile cityscape, stripped of spectacle yet charged with rare intensity.
