Tara, a story of commitment to the ocean

Twenty years ago, they embarked on a crazy adventure: to sail across the ocean aboard a floating laboratory in order to finally understand and learn about it. Tara was born. An extraordinary human and scientific adventure recounted as a great journey around the world.

Exploring the ocean to better understand it has been the mission of the Tara Foundation for twenty years. In the tradition of the great expeditions of the 18th and 19th centuries, sailors, scientists, journalists, and artists travel the world aboard Tara. They all have a common goal: to reveal the wonders, secrets, and fragility of the ocean.
From the ice floes to the high seas, they have traveled more than 500,000 kilometers in 13 expeditions, studying currents, corals, microorganisms, and the impacts of climate change and pollution.
Throughout these human adventures, major scientific discoveries and new knowledge have been shared to mobilize decision-makers, explain the issues to young people, and remind us all of the beauty of the blue planet.
