Damos Room, "Walk With The Militia"
on Limbo Tapes
Friday March 20th, 2026 - 5PM
Here lieth the cassette tape of Walk With The Militia, being the first full-length gathering of works by Damos Room, assembled not in triumph but in necessity.
This record was not made at once, nor in one place, but gathered over years and dwellings, from Ashburton Park Lodge to a flat in Selhurst, from a dinner table in Reading to rooms above the Arctic Circle in Bodø. It is built from remnants: cast-off sessions, broken attempts, radio transmissions, the ceaseless watch of a stream left running day and night. Fragments were taken up again, handled, worn thinner, and set back in place. Nothing here arrives clean.
The sound of it is heavy and ground-down. Repetition is its labour. Phrases return not to persuade, but because they cannot leave. Voices chant and lament without naming their cause. Dub and dancehall forms persist beneath the surface, buried as if under earth and stone, still moving, still sounding, though muffled by time and neglect. In places it takes on the air of older rites, half-remembered by shit-stained plebs and towncriers, devotional in shape if not in purpose:thus it is spoken, thus it is spoken again, until the meaning is made dull by use.
This record understands collapse not as a sudden fall, but as a series of mundane acts. The quiet slip. Gentle days pass. Nothing urgent until it is past remedy. Even the end, when it comes, is without spectacle. It is tedious. It is administrative.
And yet, it is here that the call is made.
The final sound,Widows, was formed from tones drawn from a pipe organ built one hundred and thirty years ago. Through wood and metal what remains speaks not of salvation, but of endurance.
Let it be known, then: this is not a warning shouted, but a notice posted too late. The Militia is not grand, nor glorious. It is composed of the present, the near, and the overlooked. Join not for honour, but because standing alone will not suffice.
Walk With The Militia.
