Secret Love is the finest expression yet of the profound friendships that created Dry Cleaning. Here, frontperson Florence Shaw, guitarist Tom Dowse, drummer Nick Buxton and bassist Lewis Maynard take their place in rock’s avant garde, catalysing the Reaganite paranoia of early 80s US punk and hardcore with the dry strut of Keith Richards, stoner rock, dystopian degradation, playful no wave and pastoral fingerpicking, while Florence’s delivery, meticulously calibrated to her bandmates’ soundscapes, asserts her in a lineage of spoken-word artists stretching from Laurie Anderson to Life Without Buildings’ Sue Tompkins. Producer Cate Le Bon likens the impression of listening to walking through a city; these 11 songs might also arrive like distinct images in a gallery. The record started life in Peckham rehearsal spaces, the south London four-piece writing, playing and responding to each other in the room, the instrumentalists egging each other on as Florence drew from her collection of postcards and found materials: in Dry Cleaning, music and lyrics form an inseparable, generative whole. Then they bundled their demos in a suitcase and took them to musical friends with strong palettes to test and twist them. Secret Love evolved through affirming sessions at Jeff Tweedy’s Chicago studio the Loft and explosive ones with Gilla Band’s Alan Duggan and Daniel Fox in Dublin, taking advantage of the sonic particulars of each space, and finally with Cate in the Loire Valley. Some acts would fear being subsumed by these other musical iconoclasts. Dry Cleaning wanted to push themselves harder than they ever had before. “We’re very confident about our identity,” says Florence. “It doesn’t seem to be possible to break it down.”

Poni Hoax performed the long version of their song "Budapest" at the agnès b fashion show in Tokyo in 2005. Poni Hoax performed at agnès b.’s invitation for the Warm Up Series at PS1 in New York in 2007. The band also performed for agnès b.’s 30th birthday at the Olympia, among other events.

After making their mark with their acclaimed 2024 album, When All You Want To Do Is Be The Fire Part of Fire, French experimental pop duo UTO return with More Heat to the Fire Part of Fire. Wewantsounds continues its extensive Meiko Kaji reissue program - in partnership with Teichiku Records and Kaji herself - with the release of Yadokari, her third album from 1973. This marks the first time the album has been reissued on vinyl, featuring its original artwork and newly remastered audio. Renowned for her iconic 1970s films (Lady Snowblood, the Stray Cat Rock series) and admired by Quentin Tarantino, Meiko Kaji also released a string of outstanding albums on Teichiku, blending Japanese pop with cinematic grooves. Yadokari, is reissued here with its original deluxe gatefold sleeve andOBI plus a two-page insert featuring new liner notes by Hashim Kotaro Bharoocha. As a special bonus, this edition includes a 7" EP single featuring Shura No Hana, famously featured on the Kill Bill soundtrack.

Chris Imler is a drummer, singer, songwriter, and composer. He first gained attention in the late 1990s as the drummer for the cult Berlin band Golden Showers. Since then, he has collaborated extensively with artists and groups such as Peaches, Puppetmastaz, Soffy O, Jens Friebe, and Oum Shatt. With Patric Catani, he also founded the project Driver & Driver.

KOMPROMAT is the alliance of Vitalic and Rebeka Warrior (Sexy Sushi, Mansfield.TYA). Area Silenzio is eat-girls' debut record and it is both haunted and haunting. For the past four years, the French trio have been crafting their songs into little self-contained worlds with the patience of entomologists, taking them out all over the country and Europe to confront them with the wilderness of a live audience. The ten resulting tracks are a collection of electronic madrigals, groove driven songs played on a mischievous multi-speed Victrola, ranging from languid dub drips to full-on drum machine cavalcades.

Wewantsounds is delighted to announce the release of one of Japan's most coveted albums of the 70s, "Mangekyou" by singer-songwriter Yoshiko Sai. Produced in 1975 by Master musician Yuji Ohno, the album features Yoshiko Sai's superbly crafted songs and crystal clear voice over Ohno's lush, funky sound and breezy arrangements. A strong buzz has been growing around the album over the years and original copies now change hands for large sums of money. This is the first time "Mangekyou" is available outside of Japan, featuring remastered audio, original artwork and a 4 page insert including new liner notes by Paul Bowler.

Originally from La Hague near Cherbourg and based in Rennes for 7 years, Héron Cendré shapes a poetic world where modular synth sounds, field recordings gleaned from schools and other minimalist lo-fi oddities blend together. The album 3-4 is the perfect illustration of this. It is "a feat of purity, minimal, chaotic, sacred, cosmic, tender, all at once and more, between film music and spatial signal, a new language all by itself" (Gonzaï). Among his influences, we can cite Terry Riley, Philippe Glass, Hiroshi Yoshimura as well as François de Roubaix, Jean-Jacques Perrey or Pierre Bastien.

Jose Guerrero aka Telomante lives in Valencia and runs the Mascarpone Discos label. A prolific producer, he multiplies projects such as Sentuhlà on Abstrakce Records or Rastrejo on his own label. Codantera is a contemplative stroll through soundscapes that leave plenty of room for improvisation where harmonic fields and abrupt experimentations intersect on the same plane. The warmth of the sound and the strength that emanates from it make this album a gem of minimalist electronic music.

Naomie Klaus is a young artist from Marseille based in Brussels.
