New York, the 1960s: Gerard Malanga is at every Factory party, camera in hand.

Born in the Bronx in 1943, he is twenty when the poet Charles Henri Ford introduces him to Andy Warhol. He joins the Factory and never stops photographing the world around him.

Poet, filmmaker, performer, photographer, he moves between disciplines without separating them. Warhol, William S. Burroughs, Mick Jagger, Iggy Pop, Dennis Hopper, Lou Reed, Patti Smith, Robert Mapplethorpe and Candy Darling all pass in front of his lens.

These portraits do not manufacture icons. They capture friends, caught at a party, a concert, an apartment or a café, in a moment of presence, complicity, solitude or abandon.

"I photographed them because they were my friends, because I loved them, because they were there."

The exhibition also continues a friendship with Agnès. As early as 2004, prints by Malanga were hung at the gallery for Bande à Part, a group exhibition devoted to the artists who shaped New York's underground. More than twenty years later, he returns with a selection of photographs, presented in partnership with the Bel Oeil collection, Nice.
